Assessment of the Well Child Essay
For this assignment I got the opportunity to visit the day care center inside the campus at the educational building. After signing some papers they took us to this tiny room where they had a one way looking glass with headphones which was connected to the microphone that was setup on the other side of the glass where children were playing. This was around three oââ¬â¢clock were children had their afternoon nap and they were all very energetic. I could see that those preschoolers were all interested on things around them. They wanted to touch, taste, hear, smell and test things for themselves. They were all eager to learn, by trying to do things and by experiencing it themselves. I could also noticed that they were learning things as they were playing, you could see that they were developing using their language and skills and by also trying to gain control on their environment. After seeing the children playing with the other staff, I pick this cute four-year-old girl. I observed her for over three hours and mainly focused on her physical, language, cognitive, social and environmental development. As I said these kids were so energetic that they were running around and making lot of noises, and my preschooler was one of them. She was constantly moving, mostly on her tip toes. She liked to hop on one foot but I felt she is going to fall in any minute; however, she managed to somehow keep her balance. She also had her sweatshirt on and kept playing with its zip while she was standing. She also used her hands a lot, weather to swing it in the air, to use her finger to pick up objects, holding objects and work with them such as scissors, or to hold markers for drawing. Overall I felt her motor skills were well developed. After she has drawn, the staff member that was with her gave her some strings, colored papers and few other objects. She was asked to use glow to cut those color papers and attach them to her drawing to make things like eyes, nose, and lips for her drawing, and although she was able to cut those papers using a scissor, the cuts werenââ¬â¢t clean at all and they didnââ¬â¢t seem to have straight lines. Since we were in that little room, we had to hear these kids talking through a microphone, so it was little hard to clearly understand how they talk or what they say, but overall their language was good. Her grammar seemed okay although she mostly talked in past tense. But her language and usage of vocabularies were all age appropriate. I notice that she was stuttering a little bit especially when she tried to talk fast or when she would get excited, she even sounded like me a little bit. Whenever I try to talk fast or think too much against my doctorââ¬â¢s advice I tend to forget words and start stuttering since English is not my primary language. And this also happens to her, it seemed like the ideas come to her mind faster than she is able to express them. She also seems to have developed a good ability to understand and ask questions. She knew that there are yes/no questions and wh- questions to ask for information. Wh-questions involve inquiring words such as who what, where, when and why. I also notice that she barrages her caregiver with a chain of why questions, one right after the other. She was curious and wished to know more about the care givers personal life. For example she kept asking her whether or not she had a boyfriend, which was very funny; heck even I wanted to know that. Or about other things such as why her mom says she has to eat vegetables and many other WHY questions. Also for every question she demanded an answer and the caregiver usually communicated with her by using age appropriate words and response and by getting down to her knees and talking to her with face level.

Critical Analysis of a Passage from Homerââ¬â¢s The Odyssey Essay
I. This passage comes very early in the Telemachy and it is wholly descriptive. The first point of interest is the arrival of Athene to Telemachosââ¬â¢ home in Ithaca. Disguised as Mentesââ¬â¢, leader of the Taphians and an old friend of Odysseus. Telemachos is the first to greet Athene as it would appear all the servants are busy working for all of the suitors. The main part of the passage is Telemachos trying to offer traditional guest hospitality customs but also attempting to keep the guest from the overbearing, rowdy suitors ââ¬Å"For himself, he drew a painted bench next her, apart from the others, the suitors, for fear the guest, made uneasy by the uproar, might lose his appetite there among the overbearing peopleâ⬠1.131-35. II. The first point to note is Telemachos clear effort to observe the hospitality customs to the best of his ability despite the mitigating circumstances of the suitorsââ¬â¢ invasion of his home. He appears to be trying to lavish his guest with the best he has and what has been left to him, after the suitorsââ¬â¢ abuse of his home and possessions ââ¬Å"the chair splendid and elaborateâ⬠, ââ¬Å"For himself, he drew a painted benchâ⬠1.131 and 32. This is obvious here in what he offers his guest and what he takes for himself. Another example of the theme of hospitality we see is evident in these lines ââ¬Å"golden pitcherâ⬠, ââ¬Å"silver basinâ⬠and ââ¬Å"polished tableâ⬠1.136 and 37. Only the finest for his guest. Now what has been clear leading up to this passage and the context of Book 1, is the encroachment of the suitorsââ¬â¢. Telemachos does not want to make his guest uncomfortable, but concurrently has another motive for leading Athene/ Mentesââ¬â¢ away from the raucous of the suitors ââ¬Å"and so he might also ask him about his fatherâ⬠1.135. Even after 2o years of his fatherââ¬â¢s absence, Telemachos is still holding onto the hope of hearing news of his father, despite the general belief of his people that his father is dead. Nevertheless, given the desperate situation Telemachos and Penelope are in, this hope is understandable. One important feature to be aware of is the authorââ¬â¢s heavy use of nouns and epithets ââ¬Å"overbearing peopleâ⬠, ââ¬Å"absent fatherâ⬠, ââ¬Å"grave housekeeperâ⬠and ââ¬Å"haughty suitorsâ⬠1.34, 35, 39 and 44. He uses words such as overbearing, absent and haughty, to convey the feelings and behaviour of the characters and also the current situation in just a few words. III. Overall, Book 1 sets out the story with some background given. It sets the tone and the mood in the Telemachy as quite sombre and desperate for Odysseusââ¬â¢ family at home awaiting any news of their loved one. It also puts forward an almost desolate need for Odysseusââ¬â¢ return home. The passage itself is a clear example of the theme of hospitality that is a predominant feature of Books 1 ââ¬â 4. It contrasts Telemachosââ¬â¢ observance of the hospitality customs with the suitors of abuse of these customs.

PR Paper for Neat People vs Sloppy People Personal Statement
PR Paper for Neat People vs Sloppy People - Personal Statement Example I think that this essay is a great example of how the mindset of an audience can impact how they view an essay, a poem, a novel, or any other piece of literature. In reading this essay the first time, my own preconceptions really got in the way. I would consider myself to be a fairly neat person, so I found myself taking offense to some of what Suzanne Britt was saying about neat people. From the very beginning, I felt like Britt was unfairly attacking neat people. For example, in the third sentence of the essay, Britt states ââ¬Å"Neat people are lazier and meaner than other peopleâ⬠(Britt, 225). Just reading this sentence, my entire view of the essay was colored as I struggled to overcome my feeling offended by what she was saying. I was taking her words to heart and comparing my own personality to the one that she attributes to neat people. One particular example was when Britt states ââ¬Å"Neat people are bums and clods at heart. They have cavalier attitudes towards possessionsâ⬠¦Neat people will toy with the idea of throwing the children out of the house just to cut down on clutterâ⬠(Britt, 226). I couldnââ¬â¢t help bu t wonder what Brittââ¬â¢s point was in this essay. She praises sloppy people and bashes neat people. Perhaps she knew someone in her life who wronged her at some point and was a ââ¬Å"neatâ⬠person. I felt that this might be a potential reason as to why she was so vitriolic against neat people. A few days later, I reread the essay; however, and really took in the comments that the editor or author of the book had made about the essay. ââ¬Å"Mingling humor with seriousnessâ⬠¦Britt uses comparison mainly to entertain by showing us aspects of ourselves, awful or notâ⬠(Kennedy, Kennedy, and Aaron, 225). This description was helpful in that I was able to drop my preconceptions and read it in a new way. I was able to view the sarcasm and humor within the piece. I realized that the extreme descriptions of the neat people and sloppy

Methods Of Employee Evaluation And Their Effectiveness Case Study
Methods Of Employee Evaluation And Their Effectiveness - Case Study Example In the first interview, the first step the supervisor needs to familiarize the new employee with the kind of duties they will be required to perform. The next step will be introducing him or her to the other workmates. Lastly, he tells them of the expectations required of them and the companyââ¬â¢s policies and code of conduct (Watkins & Leigh 2009). His plan for the day involves ensuring that there are sufficient cleaning materials, that each employee is transported to the place of work and lastly ensuring that all cleaning duties are completed to the clientââ¬â¢s satisfaction and in time. The method of evaluation he uses mainly involves punctuality, the completion of duties on time and the feedback he gets from the clients. He describes that work in the 21st century is full of challenges due to the many personality types he has to deal with daily. The work is also complicated by the social-economic demands of the workers in hard economic times. On the other hand, the second supervisor who deals with a non-recruitment work takes the first day to understand the employeesââ¬â¢ strengths and weaknesses so that he can assign him the most suitable workstation basing on those attributes. Familiarizing them with the workplace and their responsibilities is also critical. The work plan in a security company is clearly laid down so there is no need for daily preparation. Since there are clearly defined roles, my work is to ensure that they are strictly followed. In this kind of work, the most efficient way to carry out evaluation is by the punctuality of the employee. Another way is how they relate to the staff and clients of the bank. In the business of a security company, how you handle the employees is important as they can be easily poached by other companies. He overcomes this challenge by providing strong leadership and caring for the needs of his employees.

Soc - Essay Example and said that Symbolic interactionism is a study of human group, life and conduct. [Lindsay Nelson, 1998) Following this definition, this theory gives rise to the importance of understanding the meaning of life and conduct that leads to gender and racial inequalities. According to the study of Corell and Ridgeway, (2004) gender inequalities can be attributed to culture beliefs that institutionalized the category of segregating men and women. This belief on category has created a bias of difference of social inequality of race and gender, and bringing into the system the various multi-faceted structures in life. This question is also related to the study of sociology of sex which is one of the branches of study of symbolic interaction. 2. Knowing what you know now about how the self is constructed, how do you think sociological counseling would work? What is "clinical sociology"? What is the current state of "clinical sociology"? Self is somebodyââ¬â¢s personality or an aspect of somebodyââ¬â¢s personality, especially as perceived by others. When there is a perceived problem on oneââ¬â¢s self, the role of a clinical sociologist is to intervene in order to facilitate change. First a Clinical Sociologist assesses the situation along with the context of beliefs and practices and tries to provide a solution to improve the situation. The clinical sociologist can focus on the role of counseling, (e.g. marriage counseling or community counseling). Clinical sociology has been defined by Jan Marie Fritz as â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ the application of the sociological perspective to facilitate changes. The clinical sociologist is primarily a change agent who is immersed in the clientââ¬â¢s social world Current state of ââ¬Å"clinical sociologyâ⬠. Dr. Mark Foster, (n.d.) in an internet article, reported that many universities have incorporated sociological practice in their curriculum, and accreditation bodies have been created for this

Compare 2 Films Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Compare 2 Films - Term Paper Example Perhaps most notable among the two films is that they embody the underlining touches of the auteur. Auteur theory was perhaps most seminally articulated by Andrew Sarris in his Notes on Auteur Theory. In this essay he considers earlier formulations of the auteur theory, dating back to its consideration by Andre Bazin in Cahiers du Cinema who indicated that while cinema, as compared to painting or the novel form, is more a collaborative element, there is nonetheless a distinct feature of artistry that can be tied to the individual director. In comparing him to director George Cukor, Sarris even speaks of the auteur tendencies of Ingmar Bergman. Sarris extends this articulation, adding his own theoretical elements. He states, ââ¬Å"Over a group of films a director of films, a director must exhibit certain recurring characteristics of style, which serve as his signature. The way a film looks and moves should have some relationship to the way a director thinks and feelsâ⬠(Sarris, pg. 662). Sarris goes on to further elaborate on this theoretical formulation by indicating that the films of an auteur explore a certain personal concern that he equates to some degree with the singular aspect of the soul. It follows that auteur theory consists of both the external elements of technique, and the internal elements of personal vision. One of the primary elements of the auteur is that their personal style and vision is not expressed simply through one film, but comes to be a characteristic element throughout their work. Ingmar Bergmans work clearly meets this criteria. As one examines another of Bergmans seminal films ââ¬â the Seventh Seal ââ¬â in regards to Bressons work in the Trial of Joan of Arc its clear that there are both stylistic and thematic tendencies that demonstrate the films as elements of an auteur in the classic sense. In considering the Seventh Seal

Profile of a language group present in the Los Angeles area - Research Paper Example They were sourced to meet the growing demand for labor on the Hawaiian plantations following the enactment of a series of laws that barred Chinese labor immigration. Students and political exiles comprised some of the ancient Korean immigrants, providing considerable leadership in the pre-World War II Korean American community. The intervention of America in the Korean War (1950-53) prompted another wave of Korean immigration. US soldiers posted in Korea brought home Korean brides, planned adoption of Korean War orphans to American homes and sponsored students to study in America. The population of Koreans who have immigrated to America as adopted children or brides exceeds 100000 for each group. The students who were now professionals were able to apply for permanent residence visas in the US in 1965.close relatives of permanent residents and citizens greatly increased the number of Korean immigrants LA .Over a quarter million Korean Americans live in the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County-San Bernardino-Ventura metro area. According to the U.S. Korean Embassy, there are about 260 Korean community language schools in the Los Angeles area. The Korean language is taught as a subject mainly in colleges and universities in LA .University of California-Los Angeles (405 los Angeles, CA 90095 Hilgard Avenue) is one such college .The institution has a Korean language department and a center for Korean studies offering Korean at degree level. Battle of Algeria Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Battle of Algeria - Essay Example Instead, it brings out the working practices of institutional structures, the aesthetic strategies associated with that as well as related cultural politics. One good example of Third Cinema is The Battle of Algiers, which is a departure from the characteristic Hollywood style of drama. In its creation of a false sense of documentary, it makes use of simple tools. It has a background of the reporting styles of the 1960s. The production employs such tools as a flashback narrative structure, grainy black and white stock, handheld camera, zoom lens as well as long lenses. The film achieved both commercial success as well as an aesthetic success. Its success at the Venice Film Festival surprised many. It received a lot of praises especially in Europe and the United States. The climax of the success, it enjoyed globally was the eleven cinema awards it won between 1966 and 1967. During that time, it also got three Oscar nominations. The Battle of Algiers was a 1965 production of Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo with cooperation from the revolutionary government of Algeria. The film goes against conventional Hollywood procedures. Shooting in a studio with the use of popular professional actors was not a consideration. Instead, it uses a real life set up with only one actor. That led to its classification as a quasi-documentary. The choice of scenes for the film serves Pontecorvoââ¬â¢s objective. His aim is to give it a realistic touch. The film captures Casbah, a traditionally Muslim part of Algiers, as the scenes are in its marketplaces and narrow streets. Jean Martin, the only professional actor, plays the role of Colonel Mathieu. The fact that the producer was Italian may have led to the filmââ¬â¢s similarities to Italian Neo-realism. Pontecorvo elects to use simple equipment so as to create a visual effect similar to that of a documentary. The

Chapter 14 Study Questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Chapter 14 Study Questions - Essay Example Financial markets could make the economy worse if they cease to exist and similarly could up the economic basis of any nation with their presence. A financial market takes care of both the market economy as well as the non-market economy at a single time. (Lyons, 2001) A financial intermediary, technically speaking, is an institution that provides indirect fund means from the people who want to save or lend towards the people who wish to invest or borrow at the same time. The institution acts as the middleman between the firms that raise funds and the investors in essence. The financial intermediary is basically a financial institution in the most basic sense. As an example, this institution could either be a bank or a credit union. At times, the financial intermediary is seen in the instance of an insurance company as well. The financial intermediary could also be an individual who has the basic role of intermediation under a financial context between two or more parties. The funds are channeled in an easy way through the financial intermediary and the lenders and borrowers have a direct basis with the financial intermediary while indirectly they deal with each other. Money markets are those markets which act as substitutes for money. Capital markets are the markets for the long run basis of securities where they take care of both debt and equity. Money markets look at overnight to short term funds while capital markets mobilize long term savings so that financing of long term investments could be made. Money markets have maturity of one year or less than a year while capital markets have long term measures within them. Money markets collect different markets under them for a number of different instruments while capital markets look to include both the lending and borrowing regimes. Within money markets, the credit worthiness of the participants is deemed as significant while
